Curlture is an online empowerment platform created by Trina Charles and Jay-Ann Lopez, two women from London, which is purposed to empower Black women. The platform, which initially focused on natural hair care, now covers topics such as black beauty, natural hair, supporting black-owned businesses and artists, popular culture topics. If it's black owned, Curlture want to know about it; interested in everything from fashion to travel, food to skincare, home decor to haircare. Established in 2014, and known for their candid opinions, the duo have amassed over 48,000 supporters online from around the globe and have been featured on BET, Channel 4, BBC Radio 1Xtra, and more.
In addition to being empowerment bloggers, Jay and Tri speak/host events and became self-published authors in 2016 with the launch of their empowerment book KINK - a book filled with original poetry and photography designed to reverse the effects of colourism and texture discrimination in the natural hair/black community. KINK has been featured in major publications such as BuzzFeed UK, The Voice Newspaper, Pride magazine and other prominent platforms.
Jay and Tri pride themselves on being ‘Bloggers with substance’, they frequently engage in discussion with their followers about controversial topics particular to the black community encouraging self love, confidence and determination. Curlture has developed into something more than hair; it’s about accepting yourself and having confidence in how you naturally are; empowering each other and building a stronger community; nurturing the young minds and futures entrepreneurs… Curlture is a lifestyle.
